Tell us a little bit about your craft; what you do, how you
got into it and how long have you been doing it.
I design and make handmade jewelry. I
use PMC, BronzClay, Copper clay, sterling silver wire,
dichroic glass, semi-precious stones and other objects to
create my pieces. About 3 years ago, I was quitting smoking
and needed something to do with my hands, so I purchased
some PMC and started playing around making pieces for me to
wear. I quickly left the cigarettes behind and found a new
addiction. I love making jewelry.
Where can we find your products?
jewelis2008.etsy.com
What would your advice be to
anyone thinking of starting an
Etsy store?
Advertise
as much as you can afford.
Tell us a little bit about
yourself.
I have had
a strong interest in drawing and
painting since I was a child. I
have a Bachelor of Fine Arts
from Stephen F. Austin
University. I specialized in
Watercolor painting and have
sold some of my work at college
shows. I have been involved in
arts and crafts of some kind all
of my life. In the last few
years, I have been fabricating
handmade, one-of-kind jewelry
using PMC, sterling silver wire,
bronze clay, semi-precious
stones, enamel and dichroic
glass. I am a certified artisan
in PMC.
Do you buy handmade? What
products do you like purchasing?
Yes, I buy
from Etsy sellers as often as
possible. I buy supplies,
findings and stones mostly.
Do you participate in craft
shows? Why/why not?
I have
signed up for 2 craft shows this
fall. This will be my first
experience with selling
my jewelry outside of Etsy.
What is the best piece of advice
you have ever received regarding
selling on Etsy?
Renew,
renew, renew.
What is your favorite thing
about selling on Etsy?
How
sincerely kind and generous all
the buyers and sellers are.
What do you do on your spare
time aside from your Etsy
store?
I have a
full time office job so most of
my free time is spent making
jewelry. It gives me a lot of
pleasure.
How long does one piece of work
usually take you to create?
Anywhere
from an hour to 12 or so hours,
depending on the piece.
What is the most challenging
part of your work?
Before I
call it finished, I try to put
myself in the place of a buyer
and look at the piece with those
eyes. I try make sure the piece
is as well made as possible
before I stop.
